Sendy – Document Composer

Sendy is Arket’s Document Composition software, which transforms the data from your ERP into custom documents.
Scroll down to find out more about its features
Sendy is the solution dedicated to Document Composition: it transforms data generated or received by the ERP into organised documents, with an accurate graphic layout, managed in a completely automated manner.

Sendy is the ideal product to cut document production times and increase efficiency, due to its capacity to generate enormous quantities of data and take care of the visual layout.

Different from other products in the same category, Sendy adds other operations to printing: each of its documents can be sent to multiple recipients, archived or used as a source for additional processing.

The final document can be generated starting with a spool (TN3820, LPR, AS400 Client …), from a file in any format (XML, TXT, CSV …), or through a call to the powerful internal SOAP WebServices engine.

Printing of graphics: Due to the document composition tools that operate both through remapping the spool fields and overlapping graphic elements, Sendy provides an accurate, standardised and complete management of the visual aspects of the document. You can save the document generated in various formats, for example, PDF, XLS, XLSX, XML, TXT or HTML. Sendy uses two tools to oversee the content and elements and look of documents, whether they are graphics or text:

  • Spool Converter: this tool uses position-based rules (based on the row and column of the spool) and dynamic criteria (based on the content of the print job) to reduce a spool to its original data, even if it is a complex spool, with different characteristics for each page.
  • Painter: this is the tool for creating the graphic layout of documents in a simple, precise and powerful manner. For example, you can insert lines, barcode boxes, images and RTFs, directly upload images or create charts (such as histograms or pie charts). In addition, the Sendy graphics tool includes an event programming environment, which supports four different languages (Basic, Pascal, C++ and Java) and can manage highly complex logics.

With Sendy you can also:

  • print on any Windows printer
  • send spools and files (DB2/400 tables) in TXT, PDF and XLS format, and save them on disc as TXT, CSV or XML
  • manage spools that include print jobs to be sent to multiple recipients.

Printing via http: the documents handled by Sendy can also be printed out on remote printers connected via web. The communications for printing via http are encrypted and optimised for performance. Sendy also has a client that saves the print jobs printed.

Support for thermal printers: using the Painter tool, you can overcome the problems linked to the different languages used by thermal printers, managing them as normal system printers. This way, a single layout is guaranteed, even for printing labels. Installing the specific software module, each page layout is generated in the proprietary language of the printers used, which can be serial, parallel or connected via IP.

E-mails and faxes:

Sendy interfaces with any e-mail server that supports SMTP and can send e-mails automatically, perfectly integrated with the contact details in the ERP.

You just need to define which events (such as the issue of an invoice) trigger sending the document. All the elements of the message, from the subject to the signature, the attachments (PDF, XLS, XML or all other supported formats) to the body of the message are managed by Sendy, which also extracts the addresses of the recipients, sends the e-mail and monitors its delivery.

You can also automate sending faxes in the same manner: Sendy supports the most common fax servers and any fax equipped with an SMTP gateway.

Mailing service:

For mailing services such as Postel and Selecta, the new Postel (Italian Post Office) and Printel MPX (PDF over XML) standards are supported.

Sendy feeds an archive with the data of the documents to be sent and generates PDFs of the documents; a specific module revises the documents and generates the package to be send to the provider, with the exact parameters required by the specific requests.

When the document is posted, Postel validates that received it and assigns a shipment number to each single document. This number, saved by Sendy, allows you to track what you have sent.

Other methods for sharing the documents generated by Sendy:

  • Certified e-mail: sending via certified e-mail.
  • Network folders: each document can be published in network folders in the various formats supported.
  • Generation of the XML format for Electronic Invoicing starting from a spool or an input file, supplementing it, if necessary, with data read from a database.

Monitor for consulting the documents generated and the actions executed:

Sendy provides a complete monitoring tool to check the information on the status of a document (for example, whether an e-mail has been sent). The software also has an automatic alert system for errors: if a process is unsuccessful, whether a print job or a communication, the related alerts are immediately sent to one or more users.

Translation management:

With Sendy, you can generate documents in multiple languages, starting with the same source data. It can manage up to eight different languages to produce, print out and translate documents. For all of these languages, Sendy offers a dictionary and can automatically extrapolate the translation constants.

Automatic document archiving:

All documents generated by Sendy can be automatically archived within a document management solution, for example Arket’s Globe platform (part of the COLLHUBORATE suite), automatically filling in metadata/search keys.

The Client module (specific to the platform):

  • Captures the print job
  • Indicates the type of processing to execute (e.g. send a fax or send an e-mail)
  • Recovers the accessory information (e.g. to send via e-mail, it recovers the address, subject and body)
  • Sends the print job and instructions on how to handle it to the server

Sendy Client minimum requirements

Sendy Client minimum requirements and configuration Console:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 or 11

For the Client on AS/400:

  • Operating System: OS/400 release V5R3M0 or later
  • Model: No restrictions

Sendy’s Server module:

  • Executes the client’s requests
  • Publishes and/or sends the processed document
  • Analyses the results of the operations executed
  • Alerts of any anomalies

Sendy can manage several parallel servers to increase the volume of print jobs/documents sent that can be handled, and to guarantee the utmost continuity to the process. The system can run parallel print jobs even in the event of high volumes.

The platform supports the Double-Byte Character Set, as well as UTF-8 and UTF-16, fully leveraging the most recent potential of the Unicode encoding standard. Wherever your company is located, support for the localisation code page and transparency in managing mixed systems are always guaranteed, eliminating the non-communication between double-byte systems and single-byte systems. A single server can thus automatically process output generated by the client in China (or Japan) and output of clients located in Western countries.

Sendy Server minimum requirements

Recommended minimum requirements for Sendy Server:

  • DBMS Type and Version: Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or later
  • Operating System: Windows Server 2016 or later

The optimum size of the server is assessed based on the number of documents that need to be processed.

Sendy also works in virtualised environments (e.g. VMWare and Hyper-V).
